Rainbow Warrior

Matauri-Bay - Compass

The Rainbow Warrior Memorial, incorporating a symbolic rainbow of black stone and the propeller of the Rainbow Warrior, was built by New Zealand artist Chris Booth between 1988 and 1990. Booth has built many important monuments in his home country and Australia, Europe, the United States and Mexico. The stone rainbow looks towards the bay in which the wreck rests on the seabed. Next to the sculpture is an altar-like stone with a line pointing to where the wreck now lies in the sea.
